Lawmakers to Post Gifts Online 08/20/10 4:15pm TDH

California state lawmakers and members of their staff will soon be required to publicly report gifts they receive from lobbyists.   Ab-2007 was unanimously approved by the assembly yesterday(thurs), and is now awaiting the governor’s signature.   The bill will require members of the legislature to post the gifts on a website, once a year.   Currently, lobbyists are required to report their gifts to the secretary of state’s office, while lawmakers submit them in annual “statements of economic interests.”    The move to post them online comes on the heels of a report earlier this year, which found 31-lawmakers had failed to fully report gifts.
