A judge has recommended jail time for the students who blocked Highway 1 in March. All six UC Santa Cruz students were arrested after blocking the highway to protest tuition hikes. The demonstration closed the roadway for five hours. If the students plead no contest,  the judge plans to sentence the students to 30 days in jail and will order them to pay fines and up to $40,000 in restitution. The group will appear in court on May 7th for a status hearing.
