January 19, 2017: Hazardous Ocean Conditions

(11:40) Central Coast – U.S. Coast Guard Officials are urging bay area boaters and beachgoers to be extra careful along the central coast this weekend. The three new storms are creating hazardous conditions with cold temperatures, rain, high winds and heavy seas.  The Coast Guard strongly encourages owners of small crafts such as skiffs, kayaks and paddleboards to properly secure them and mark them with identifying information in the event they break free.  Boaters are also encouraged to make sure they have a working VHF-FM radio, lifejackets for all passengers and to file a float plan with friends and family members before heading out on the water.  Beachgoers are reminded to not turn the backs to the water and refrain from standing on slippery cliffs overlooking the ocean.
