A 41-year old Gonzales woman was booked into Monterey County Jail on felony hit-and-run charges this morning after a young girl suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police say the 9-year old was walking to school in a marked crosswalk at Fairview and Centennial Drives just before 8 a.m., when the driver, Maricela Medina Leon, hit the girl while she was speeding, and talking on her cell phone. Police say Leon left the scene to go home and change her clothes and returned 7 minutes after the crash. The girl, who was thrown 20 to 30 feet after being hit, was taken to an out-of-county trauma center.
