Firefighters are used to saving cats from trees, but some Salinas firefighters had to improvise on Tuesday, as they tried to revive a dying puppy. The dog’s owner brought the puppy to the fire station on West Alisal Drive, and asked for help. The dog was not breathing, and the team of firefighters used the Heimlich maneuver, and chest compressions to resume the flow of air. An oxygen mask was placed over the dog’s mouth, and it was taken to a local vet, where it is recovering.
