February 9, 2016: Number Of Monarch Butterflies

(17:26) MONTEREY PENINSULA – Although the number of Monarch butterflies on the California coast is up from recent years (at least in most areas), they’re down in Monterey county. It is thought that that’s due to the habitat loss of milkweed plants (which is where monarch butterflies are used to laying their eggs). People who wish to plant milkweed on their Monterey Peninsula properties are encouraged to do so. The Pacific Grove Museum even provides free milkweed seeds to area residents.
