The Dolan fire burning near Big Sur has now consumed more than 111-thousand acres and is only 26-percent contained… as it roars toward one of California’s historic treasures.
The mission San Antonio de Padua established in 1771 is located just about a mile from the southern tip of the fire and it’s also threatening the military base of Fort Hunter Liggett near Jolan.
Fire crews are doing their best to protect the historic site by creating a buffer around the mission. Over the last six years Mission San Antonio has been in a state of restoration costing over 11-million dollars.
