Districts upheld 01/27/12 TDH

The California supreme court today upheld newly-drawn state senate districts.  Republicans in the state had challenged the new boundaries, which were drawn by a voter-approved, independent citizen redistricting commission.   The decision means that the new districts will be used, as republicans move forward with a ballot initiative to overturn them.  The legal challenge had sought to use the old districts before that matter is put to voters.   The decision does not affect the move to overturn the districts, it simply means that the new districts will be on at least this coming ballot.  That likely means that local state senator sam blaskseee will not seek re-election.  He had stated that he would only run under the old boundaries.   Bill monning has announced he is running for the seat.
