Updated: Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said earlier today that the suspect in the killing of Newman police Corporal Ronil Singh is in the country illegally.
The Sheriff, whose agency is leading the investigation into the shooting, refused to name the suspect but said he is still believed to be in Stanislaus County. An intense manhunt remains underway.
Christianson told a news conference that Singh pulled over the attacker as part of a DUI investigation early Wednesday and that the officer fired back at the suspect in self-defense. The suspect is not thought to have been injured.
