Child Car Seats Require Proper Fit 09-19-18 14:10 DC

A 5-year-old Watsonville boy remains hospitalized after he was thrown from a pick-up truck yesterday morning in an accident on Highway One in Capitola. The California Highway Patrol says the child was not sitting in a car seat prior to the accident. A safety seat might have protected the boy from the major injuries he suffered.

Car seats are required by law for young children. But getting the seat properly fitted into a vehicle can be complex… and mistakes can endanger the children the seats are supposed to protect. Spokesman Sam Courtney says CHP officers are happy to help with car safety seat fitting and installation.

To arrange for a CHP trained car seat technician (it requires a 40-hour course) to help you, call the CHP Santa Cruz office at 831-662-0511 or the Monterey office at 831-770-8000.
