(16:02) BIG SUR – The more than 43-thousand acre Soberanes fire, that has destroyed 57 homes, is believed to have started when an illegal campfire was left unattended. The campfire was in a 2-foot by 2 foot pit, just off the Soberanes Creek Trail (about 2-and-a-quarter miles up the hiking trail from highway 1) in Garrapata State Park. That area of the park was already closed to the public at that point. The person who lit the campfire could be charged with negligence, and manslaughter.
