The City of Carmel has hired a compliance checking firm to monitor vacation rentals. It is illegal to rent out rooms in the city for periods under 30 days. The city hired the firm, which will conduct stings through online services such as Air B and B, after official notice a drop in hotel bookings preceding the upcoming car week event. The city passed the 30 ordinance back in 1989.
