The ban was proposed after leaders of Boy Scouts of America decided to not allow gay people to serve in leadership positions. The court voted unanimously to ban judges from the organization, stating their affiliation with the group would bias their decisions. The ban has prompted judges to withdraw from the organization, including Monterey County judge Larry Hayes. Judges have until January of next year to step down from their leadership positions.
