The Statewide Plastic Bag Ban is now on “hold” because a group of people collected more than enough valid signatures to place the issue on the 2016 ballot. The ban was scheduled to be phased-in in July of this year. The members of the American Progressive Bag Alliance say the statewide ban would cost manufacturing jobs and boost profits for grocers. A spokesman for a coalition of environmental, business, and labor groups expects Californians to uphold the Statewide Plastic Bag Ban. More than 100 cities and counties in California currently have such bans on the books.
