Ben Lomond Handcrew Back After 50 Days Fighting Fires 08-21-18 1720 DC

An inmate firefighting hand crew is back home in Ben Lomond today after 50 days on the front lines of several of California’s largest wildland fires. The minimum security prisoners are paid $2-a-day while in camp and $1-an-hour while on the fireline. They work with shovels, chainsaws and other tools used to create breaks to stop fire travel.

Two other Ben Lomond crews remain on the Mendocino Complex fire.
