Less than a year after Lime’s bright green rental scooters were removed from campus, returning students at Cal State Monterey Bay yesterday found new Spin Electric Scooters available for their use.
Spin officials say a technology called geo-fencing solves some of the problems that Lime had faced, including the scooters’ use off-campus and being dumped haphazardly when students wanted to return them.
Geo-fencing determines where the Spin scooters can be used.
For example, riding off-campus will cause the new scooters to shut down. Not parking in designed drop-offs will prevent the scooter’s meter from ending the ride and stopping charges.
Helmet use, however, is optional for Spin riders.
