August 15, 2016: Firefighters Being Affected by Poison Oak

(10:20)  Big Sur – Poison oak is especially prevalent on the Central Coast making it hard to avoid for the Soberanes Firefighters.  There have been over 5,000 firefighters fighting the fire, and out of those firefighters, 415 people have been affected by poison oak and only one case has resulted in a firefighter needing to leave.  l fire says that as they gain further control over the fire the number of people being affected by poison oak should decrease.  There is currently a medical station at each base camp with enough medicine to treat firefighters.
