Ammonia Leak    10-24-17    T.A.

(07:15) Salinas – The Salinas Fire Department reported that 3 people were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries after an ammonia leak.  The ammonia leak took place last night around 6:45 at GreenGate cooling center in Salinas.  Firefighters reported the oil separators at the cooling center developed a leak, releasing 5,500 pounds of ammonia.  Portions of Abbott Street were shut down temporarily as technicians worked to repair the leak.  Firefighters encourage anyone who was evacuated from the ammonia leak and feels their skin burning or has trouble breathing to call 9-1-1 or go to a local hospital for assessment.
