A winter homeless shelter may return to a north county Salvation Army location in Live Oak. The city and county have faced problems locating winter shelters, largely thanks to neighborhood opposition.
The Salvation Army could turn the VFW post on Seventh Avenue into an overnight 60-bed shelter beginning next month. A second smaller shelter has been funded and may open on Salvation Army property in Watsonville. Winter shelters are typically open from November 15 until April 15 and officials are looking for additional locations.
