A weekly flea market, proposed to be held at the Salinas Sports Complex, was opposed last night. The council’s 4-to-2 vote came after on-going concerns were raised over traffic and negative impacts the market would have on existing businesses. The original proposal for the Sunday Flea market was modified last month to require a 6-month trial period, along with reducing the number of vendors from 118 to 82 during the swap meet’s test run. The flea market was requested in connection with the California Rodeo Association, which leases the Sports Complex from the city.
