2 fires have burned thousands of acres in south Monterey county. The more than 48-thousand 800 acre Garza Fire, which began July 9th near Avenal in Kings County, has been burning north and west into Monterey county….and towards the 13-hundred acre Park Fire. The Garza Fire is 97 percent contained, although smoke from it is expected to be visible for several more days. The Park Fire, which began yesterday, is 15 percent contained, and threatening 5 structures. Coalinga Road is closed between Highway 198 and Joaquin Canyon Road. The cause of both fires is still under investigation.
