Although it’s viewed as an incredibly complicated and fluid year (for budget purposes), Watsonville city leaders have approved a 41 million dollar general fund budget for the city. It reduces police spending by 1 million dollars, but puts back $57,000 that is earmarked for youth sports. In an earlier version of the budget, city-organized youth sports had been cancelled due to the pandemic, but now it looks as though state leaders will allow such activities again in September.
