Some Santa Cruz women told the California Attorney General’s office it should require Dominican Hospital to provide more women’s health services. As a Catholic hospital, Dominican refuses to provide abortion, tubal ligation, sterilization and other medical procedures prohibited by Catholic doctrine.
The women’s comments came during a meeting held Monday in Santa Cruz where the A-G’s office heard public comment on the proposed merger of Dominican parent Dignity Health with Catholic Healthcare Initiatives. It’s expected the state will impose conditions on the merger, but how those might impact women’s health issues is unclear.
