Whales appear to have been involved in two weekend collisions with boats on Monterey Bay. Both occurred within minutes of one another on Sunday. In one case, a woman was injured when she was thrown into and broke a boat’s windshield. In another incident, people were tossed into the water when a breaching whale overturned their 10-foot boat. All the people were rescued, and the woman was taken to a Monterey hospital.
It’s a busy year for whales on Monterey Bay as large anchovy populations support more whales than in previous years.
There are also larger than usual numbers of white sharks being seen in the bay, especially of 5-to-7-foot younger sharks who have only been seen in the Bay for the last four years.
