The Salvation Army on Monday opened a new day center for the homeless in Watsonville.
The facility is located at 1-0-4 Grant Street, across from the Watsonville police station. It is expected to serve as many as 100 homeless people a day.
Services at the new day center include showers, bathrooms, storage lockers, computers with internet connections, postal services, and laundry facilities. The center is expected to cost $93-thousand dollars to operate during its first year.
Later this year, the same building will house the Salvation Army’s winter overnight shelter.
