The voting age won’t be lowered in Monterey County…..at least not any time soon. 2 elected officials in Monterey County proposed the change, after the city of Berkeley made the change official, and San Francisco voters narrowly rejected it. Because Monterey County is not a Charter County (as are Alameda, and San Francisco, counties) it has to rely on State laws….including those that govern elections. The elected officials involved in this effort had hoped to be able to allow 16 and 17 year-olds to vote in Local Races.
