A 33-year-old chualar woman was sentenced on tuesday to 1-year-in jail, for her role in a vehicle theft-turned-kidnapping. On may 31st of last year, Maribel mejia stole a car that had the keys in the ignition. What neither she, nor her accomplice realized, was that a 1-month old girl was also in the vehicle. The girl’s mother had gone into a food pantry on peak avenue when the theft occurred. A statewide amber alert was issued, and the child was located in a few hours, unharmed, in salinas. Mejia was arrested a few days later; she pleaded guilty to the charges against her. A male suspect is still wanted in connection with the crime.
