Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter passed away in a Salinas hospital last night. He had checked-into the hospital last Thursday, and died from an infection related to a recurrence of cancer. He was elected mayor in 2012, after spending more than 30 years in the Salinas Police Department. This past January he was recognized for his more than 50 years of Public Service, as well as serving in the Marine Corps during Vietnam before that. Joe Gunter, who is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, was 73 years-old.
