Caltrans says it may close Highway 1 tomorrow (Wed) morning South of Big Sur in the areas of Mud Creek at P-M 8.9 and Paul’s Slide at PM 21.6. The advisory is based on a forecast for heavy rain in the area overnight or in the morning.
The closure – it if becomes necessary – is expected for mid-morning and the gates at each end of the slides would be key locked and no access allowed until an assessment and clean-up can be made if necessary.
CALTRANS spokeswoman Susanna Cruz says the Mud Creek slide – which created 15-acres of new shoreline – will take years to stabilize.
Listen in the morning for updates on whether the closures will actually take place.
