(UPDATE) January 12, 2016: Man Arrested, Victim Identified in Fatal Hit-And-Run in Watsonville

(Updated at 06:51) – Watsonville police have identified a man who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred over the weekend. The incident took place around 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Lake Avenue and Main Street. The crash involved a Honda Accord and a Ford truck. The driver of the truck, 44-year-old Jesus Campos Banderas, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 27-year-old female passenger was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and remains in serious condition. The driver of the Accord, 22-year-old Diego Santino Sanchez, has been arrested and faces charges of DUI, deadly hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter. He is expected to be arraigned this week. (Posted January 11 at 16:53) – A Watsonville man has been arrested in connection with Saturday’s fatal hit-and-run accident in Watsonville. 22 year-old Diego Santino Sanchez faces possible charges of DUI, deadly hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter. The driver of the vehicle Sanchez’s car hit was pronounced dead at the scene, while that man’s passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, and was airlifted to a Bay Area trauma center. (S.S.)

(Posted January 9 at 13:36) WATSONVILLE– Watsonville police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that took place early Saturday. Authorities say that shortly after 12:30 a.m., patrol units arrived to the corner of East Lake Avenue and Main Street where a Honda Accord had collided with a Ford truck. A male occupant of the truck was pronounced dead on site and his female companion was airlifted to a trauma center with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda was witnessed leaving the scene on foot and was located at home and subsequently airlifted to a trauma center in serious condition. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the incident. Formal charges are pending. (P.M.D.)
