(UPDATE) December 23, 2015: Aptos Man Suspected of Causing House Fire Identified

(Updated at 07:57) –  Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputies have identified the man suspected of causing a house fire in Aptos last week. Investigators believe 43-year-old Antonio Gallindo-Perches was operating the butane hash oil lab that caused an explosion at his home on the 300 block of Bonita Drive on Friday. Gallindo-Perches was hospitalized with severe burns and is still receiving treatment. During a search of the home, deputies recovered an indoor marijuana grow, 400 canisters of butane, and a rifle. The investigation is ongoing.

The blaze was reported Friday afternoon at a residence on the 300 block of Bonita Drive. Officials say the fire was caused by the explosion of a butane hash oil lab inside the home. One man was transported to a Bay Area trauma center with severe burns. Four dogs were inside the residence at the time of the fire. One was found dead in the fire’s aftermath. The investigation is ongoing.

 

(Posted December 21 at 07:24) APTOS – One man suffered serious injuries after a fire broke out at a home in Aptos Friday afternoon. The blaze was reported at a residence on the 300 block of Bonita Drive shortly after 2 p.m. Crews extinguished the fire in just under two hours. One man escaped the home and was transported to a Bay Area trauma center with severe burns. Four dogs were inside the residence at the time of the fire. One was found dead in the fire’s aftermath. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (S.G.)
