FROM KSBW.com:
The University of California, Santa Cruz has implemented a voluntary on-campus evacuation for staff and students.
The campus is telling campus residents to find a safe place to go. For people who do not have a safe place to go there is a staging area at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk area beginning at 2 p.m.
“At this point the evacuation is voluntary, but at any moment the campus evacuation could become mandatory. Once an evacuation order becomes mandatory, the campus will declare a campus emergency,” said the university on its Facebook page.
As a precautionary measure, the school will power down the campus Cogeneration plant starting at 2:00 p.m. The campus will then be operating solely on PGE power. They will also shut down the natural gas on campus.
