The University of California has fired 54 striking graduate student employees at UCSC. The students have not been expelled from the school, however they will now be responsible for paying their own tuition. A number of the fired students are foreign and could potentially lose their student visas as well. Although the strike was not union sanctioned, the university’s actions are being criticized for being too severe.
