Thieves are targeting Toyota Priuses to get easy cash. Now, law enforcement near Sacramento has uncovered a big cache after an 8-month investigation.
Search warrants were issued for two locations last week in Elk Grove. Investigators found almost 2,000 catalytic converters and a whopping $300,000 in cash.
Law enforcement says it would be tough to determine who these converters belong to.
The catalytic converter thefts are happening across Santa Cruz County and investigators locally are interested in Sacramento’s case.
Santa Cruz Police are also interested in this latest information.
They have 40 cases they’d like to close the books on.
Thieves target those parts because they contain platinum and palladium which can get them top dollar at scrap yards.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says there have not been any arrests and the investigation is on-going.
