In this case, paychecks made out for phantom people who are on the payroll but never show-up for work. This is something police say agriculture crew bosses sometimes do and then cash the ghost worker paychecks.
Three people were arrested in Monterey County earlier this week by the sheriff’s AG crimes unit. The arrests took place as police were serving a search warrant in the embezzlement case. Investigators say the arrests stopped thousands of dollars in losses to businesses.
The suspects were charged with identity theft, conspiracy, and embezzlement.
