The Salinas Fire Department received two new fire trucks on Friday. The department now has a new fire truck and a hook and ladder truck. Fire officials requested the bigger hook and ladder truck , which requires a rear driver for the rear steering wheels which make the truck more maneuverable on small streets, after a July 2013 apartment complex fire. The building was lost because Salinas firefighters didn’t have proper equipment to handle the blaze. The new hook and ladder truck marks the first time in 45 years the city has had a hook and ladder truck in its fire fighting arsenal.
