A 54 year-old man, who died while surfing at pleasure point on Saturday, had just graduated from San Jose State University last Thursday. Richard Herrin and his wife had both returned to school as “older adults”, after having had a local business here years ago. They also both had family ties here. Herrin is survived by his wife, Rita, and his 4 step-children. Although services for Herrin will likely take place in San Jose, there may be a “paddle out” here as well.
