Sunday memorial “paddle out” for surfer Jacob Gray 08-24-18 11:10 dc

A memorial paddle out will be held Sunday for local surfer Jacob Gray, who disappeared in April 2017 while camping in Olympic National Park in Washington State.

The 22-year-old was on a solo camping trip when he disappeared. His skeletal remains were found in the park two weeks ago following an extensive search. No cause of death has been released, though Washington newspaper reports quote family members speculating that Gray likely died of hypothermia.

The paddle out will begin at 9am Sunday at the Surfer Statue near West Cliff Drive and Pelton Avenue in Santa Cruz. There is more information on the “Find Jacob gray” Facebook page. There will also be an informal memorial service Sunday afternoon.
