Strong winds caused many downed trees and damaged power lines throughout Santa Cruz County this morning. At 10 a.m., 500 PG&E customers in Santa Cruz, 500 in Aptos, 400 in Watsonville, and 560 in Soquel were without power. Last night’s wind storm reached a reported 40 mph in Ben Lomond and Capitola. As a result of the cold and windy weather, the Monterey County Health Department released a carbon monoxide warning, advising residents to exercise caution when finding additional heat sources.
