California’s public safety power shutoffs to prevent wildfires done more than cut power. Some residents and businesses lost their phones, as well.
The Federal Communications Commission found that nearly 900 cellphone towers were offline during the October 27th power shutoff. Marin County was particularly hard hit.
Today (Wed) in Sacramento, some Democratic state lawmakers announced legislation that would require cellular companies to have at least 72 hours of backup power at cellular towers in fire-prone areas.
