An agreement between First Solar, and Apple Corporation, looks like it’s going to lead to the first solar farm in Monterey county. The solar panel farm is slated to be constructed on property that is owned by the Hearst Corporation, and located southeast of the town of Parkfield (in Cholame Valley). The ground is expected to be broken on the California Flats Solar Project, mid-way through this year; and be completed in 2016. On Monday, Monterey County Planning Commissioners approved the California Flats Solar Project, and today Monterey County Supervisors gave the project their final approval. Apple will receive 130 megawatts of electricity from this “solar farm”, and that’s expected to power all of Apple’s operations in California. Part of the agreement indicates that P.G. & E. is also in-line to receive electricity from the south Monterey county solar farm.
