The consolidation of multiple state agencies is being proposed to make the oversight of the commercial cannabis industry easier. Governor Gavin Newsom believes that having a Department Of Cannabis Control would help stream-line the process for license-holders. Newsom’s proposal also calls for changing the way the state collects both cultivation and excise taxes for cannabis products. He hopes to get the consolidation accomplished by the summer of 2021.
