Sex Offenders Stay in Jail 08/29/18 14:45 DC

Bail reform was only signed into law this week and already it is being changed. If the State Senate approves a companion bill, suspects arrested for crimes that would require them to register as sex offenders must see a judge before they can be released from jail.

State senators were expected to pass the new law today/Wednesday and send it on to the governor for signature. The new law would expand the number of sex offenders not eligible for early release to include everyone who would have to register as a sex offender if convicted.

The bail bond overhaul goes into effect in October 2019 and many details remain to be worked out. Governor Brown signed the overhaul into law earlier this week.
