Seaside asks residents to register security cameras 01-15-20 15:32 DC

Seaside police are asking residents to voluntarily register security cameras, which officers say could help them solve crimes.

Registration would tell the cops the locations of cameras near crime scenes so they might find useful video after a crime occurs.

Cameras at homes and businesses can be registered anonymously, and the service is free.

Police promise the information will be secure and not made public, and that only law enforcement can see the video. If a crime happens, residents may be contacted by officers so they can review recordings.

The City of Santa Cruz and Monterey County also participate in the voluntary program. Find more information and register a camera here.
