It’s been more than two years since Santa Cruz County last had a local program to treat survivors of sexual assault. They will soon once again be examined in Santa Cruz County.
That service, which ended two years ago, is being restarted so that survivors will no longer be required to travel to San Jose for examinations.
This week, the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s department got about $500,000 from county supervisors to restart the program. It is expected to treat about 60 patients annually once the program resumes in April.
