On Saturday night Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies stopped a car driven by Daniel Gates with passenger Nathan Gardner. A k-9 officer indicated that there were drugs in the car. A search found a large quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine that was packaged for sales, along with prescription pills and a 9mm handgun. The investigation led deputies to a local hotel where they found additional drugs. 67.5 grams of methamphetamine, 47.5 grams of cocaine, 1 gram of heroin and 480 pills were confiscated. Gates and Gardner were booked into county jail on multiple felonies including being in possession of narcotics and a firearm.
