In trying to limit coronavirus cases, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office has been paying close attention to the COVID-19 numbers at neighboring jails and prison facilities.
Most recently, the sheriff’s office has started testing individuals who are booked into the main jail. After the initial test, they are housed in a quarantine unit for two weeks–they then receive a second test before being released to the general population.
Last week, the jail did have one person test positive on the initial coronavirus test, but no one was exposed.
The infected person was immediately isolated and will remain separated from the general population until cleared by medical staff.
