The Santa Cruz Downtown Commission is reconsidering a plan that would change the direction of traffic on Pacific Avenue. A similar proposal was introduced several years ago, which would have made a large section of the street two-way. The plan stalled in 2011 when the Fire Department said their trucks would be unable to navigate the turns. The new plan would direct incoming traffic south down Pacific Avenue all the way to the beach. One change would include converting one section of the corridor between Church and Cathcart streets from northbound to southbound. The project would cost an estimated $40,000.
