Santa Cruz officials may reconsider their recent decision to purchase an armored vehicle for the city’s police department. The city council accepted a BearCat from the Department of Homeland Security in December. The decision launched a series of protests from community members, who believe the purchase may lead to the militarization of the police force. The city council plans to go over the protocol for using the BearCat with the public, as well as discuss the possibility of overturning their decision. A meeting to address the issue is expected to take place in March.
