San Lorenzo Valley Official Water Update 10/01/20 14:36 DC

To the resilient community of the San Lorenzo Valley

Although the CZU Lightning Complex wildfires have been contained the ongoing impacts continue to cause challenges in our communities.

We are empathetic to those who have been affected and want to assure you that the San Lorenzo Valley Water District (District) is here to support both individual and community needs as they surface in the coming weeks, months, and beyond.

District staff have been working 24/7 since August restoring water service, water quality, and preparing the District’s watershed lands and facilities for winter rain.

We ask that all of us prepare for winter rains which are predicted to cause flooding and debris flows in creeks and streams.

Be prepared for power outages and store at least three days of drinking water, in 1982 flooding closed Highway 9 for days isolating communities and restricting travel, I encourage you to be prepared.

The District has restored water service to all of its connections, reduced connections affected by the Do Not Drink/Do Not Boil (DND/DNB) notice, and has begun emergency repairs on its system.

While the District has improved its conditions the effects of the fire on infrastructure still exist and will exist for years to come. Due to limited storage, the District is asking all customers to conserve water and follow strict water conservation measures, reframing from outdoor or unnecessary water use.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) testing continues in the Riverside Grove and Big Basin Way pressure zones which are still under DND/DNB notices.

The District continues to sample in zones that were lifted from the DND/DNB notice to ensure safe drinking water. Drinking water for those still affected by the DND/DNB notice is being provided by free refillable jugs and cases of water at the District’s operations building in downtown Boulder Creek. This water is also available to our neighboring areas impacted by the fire.

The District is updating its website, and social media pages almost daily. Please visit www.SLVWD.com to receive the most up to date news.

We want to thank all essential workers, our community, staff, and especially the firefighters for all of their hard work and dedication to the valley.
